Annabelle Terry
Anatomy + Vinyasa
Annabelle (she/they) is a deeply dedicated practitioner of Yoga in pursuit of Self-knowledge and service in the world. Her studies circulate Hatha and Tantrik practices among the Nath lineage, Kriya Yoga in the lineage of Paramahansa Hariharananda, and Advaita Vedanta through the lens of many teachers under the lineage of Shankaraji. She is also trained in Vinyasa Yogasana in the lineage of Sri Krishnamacharya and his son TKV Desikichar through Dr. Liz Lindh. She is dedicated to self-inquiry and an embodied practice of universal devotion, and acts as a conduit to the teachings of Yoga with immense passion and gratitude. Annabelle’s collegiate background in psychology and kinesiology imbibes her philosophical interests with tangible anatomical and psychological markers. In her perspective, part of the genius of the Yogic tradition lies in the incredible understanding of human anatomy prior to the development of modern technology and medicine. Annabelle’s in-depth knowledge of anatomy and Yogic philosophy helps to situate both subjects inside of the other, creating a tangible overlap between the exo and esoteric. By holding both modern understandings of anatomy and ancient teachings of Yoga, the practitioner is better able to navigate the puzzle of this science of liberation with more ease, less physical pain, and less mental resistance. Her approach centers on functional movement for longevity, stabilizing the nervous system, creating new neural pathways, and the development of one’s own relationship with their unique anatomy as a map to Self-Realization. As a guide in the teacher training program, her goal is to impart tools to help new teachers deepen their understanding of anatomy and physiology through first hand exploration, and to highlight this understanding as a pathway to deepening their Yoga practice. Expect to walk away from sessions with a better understanding of movement, accessibility, breath, the central nervous system, and the true potential of Asana within the Yogic traditions.
